La banda gótica con tintes de heavy-rock lanzó su tercer álbum homónimo , el primero desde The Open Door (2006), se estrenó en octubre en el No. 1 en el Billboard 200, la segunda vez que la banda ha llegado a esa cima. Para la encorsetada cantante Amy Lee de Evanescence, único miembro original, habla sobre la opción de haber tomado tanto tiempo fuera al lanzamiento de un álbum, así como su decisión de abandonar el primer intento al lanzar el disco de la banda.
Estaba totalmente preparada, dice Lee, al tener que volver a establecer contacto con la audiencia de Evanescence que había desaparecido durante cinco años.
”Yo, literalmente, simplemente no pensé en la banda por un tiempo”, dice Lee de 29 años de edad, , hablando por teléfono desde Nashville. ”Sólo me aparte por completo de Evanescence. Yo estaba dispuesta a dejarlo ir. En mi cabeza se iba, ¿Sabes qué? Si me inspiro de nuevo hacer otro disco, aunque sea en 10 años, vale la pena esperar la inspiración y hacer algo grande. Ha sido genial volver después de tanto tiempo y ver que salimos de la nada, en todo el mundo. Es sin duda muy impresionante, la realización feliz de que todavía tenemos tantos fans.”
Ese fue el caso de Evanescence desde el primer momento, por supuesto. Lee nacida en California y Ben Moody co-fundador de Evanescence en 1995 en Little Rock armaron Evanescence, después de reunirse en un campamento religioso juvenil. Basándose en el éxito temprano en tiendas locales con tres EPs y una colección de demos, el grupo firmó contrato y lanzó su álbum debut, Fallen, en 2003. Impulsado por el éxito del sencillo Bring Me to Life, el álbum vendió más de 17 millones de copias en todo el mundo y ganó un par de premios Grammy.
El camino no fue fácil. Moody abandono la banda , mientras estaba de gira promocionando el álbum, y fue seguido por el resto de los miembros originales de la banda en los próximos dos años. Moody y los ex miembros, John LeCompt y Rocky Gray se reagruparon en el 2009 para formar una banda muy parecida a Evanescence llamada “We Are The Fallen”, liderada por la finalista de American Idol Carly Smithson.
“Eso no tiene nada que ver conmigo o Evanescence”, dice Lee. “La única cosa que me molesta de él, en realidad, es que sigo escuchando … “los miembros originales”.
